The House

Hale Kai means house by the sea, and it earns the name. Four suites open onto a single long lanai; the lanai opens onto a lawn of palms; the palms give way to sand and the surf line. There is no road to cross, no path to find — the beach is simply where the grass ends.

Inside: louvered light, teak and linen, a kitchen built for long dinners, and a wall of glass that disappears so the trade winds can move through the whole house.
